GPHA Director General, Keta MP Inspect Progress of Keta Port Administration Block Project

The Director General of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), Major General Paul Seidu Tanye-Kulono, together with Senior Management of the Authority, the Member of Parliament for Keta Constituency, Hon. Kwame Gakpey, and the Dufia of Kedzi, Togbi Acolatse V, have undertaken a site inspection of the Port of Keta Administration Block project.

The visit was aimed at assessing the progress of work on the facility following a successful stakeholder engagement on the recent approval of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) permit for the Port of Keta project by the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA).

Project contractors, PSB Realty Company Limited, took the delegation on a tour of the construction site and provided updates on the status of the works. According to the contractors, the project is approximately 70 percent complete, with the structural works on the main administration building fully completed.

They explained that ongoing activities include external works such as the construction of the perimeter fence wall and energy farms, as well as Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) installations.

Speaking to the media after the inspection, Major General Tanye-Kulono expressed satisfaction with the progress made so far and commended the contractors for the quality and pace of work.

He reiterated his earlier assurance to the Overlord of Anlo State, Togbi Sri III, that the administration block would be completed and operational by the end of January 2027.

The Director General noted that the Port of Keta project is expected to drive significant economic growth and transformation in the Volta Region and Ghana as a whole.

According to him, the development of the port will create numerous employment opportunities and stimulate the establishment of businesses and ancillary services, thereby improving livelihoods and boosting economic activity in the region.

For his part, the Member of Parliament for Keta Constituency, Hon. Kwame Gakpey, described the project as a major milestone for the people of the constituency and the wider Volta Region.

He expressed delight at the approval of the EIA permit, describing it as a critical step towards the realization of the long-awaited project.

Hon. Gakpey further encouraged residents, particularly the youth, to position themselves to take advantage of the opportunities that will emerge from the port project by acquiring relevant skills and training that will enhance their employability.

He expressed confidence that the successful completion of the port would usher in a new era of socio-economic development for the constituency and the region.
