IFC Managing Director Makhtar Diop to visit Ghana
Makhtar Diop, Managing Director of the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, will visit Ghana from September 15–17, 2026, to engage public and private sector leaders on how the World Bank Group can mobilize greater private investment to support Ghana’s development priorities, strengthen businesses, and create more and better jobs.
During the visit, Mr. Diop will meet senior government officials and engage business leaders, entrepreneurs, civil society organizations, academic institutions, and members of Ghana’s creative sector to hear their perspectives on the opportunities and constraints shaping private sector growth.
Discussions will focus on how the World Bank Group can mobilize greater private investment to support Ghana’s development priorities, strengthen competitiveness, expand access to finance, and create more and better jobs. The visit will feature high-level engagements and partnership announcements across agribusiness, education, youth employment and skills development, access to finance, industrial development, renewable energy, and the creative economy. These engagements will highlight how private investment can strengthen priority sectors, support business growth, and create more and better jobs in Ghana.
IFC’s work in Ghana supports businesses, strengthens domestic value chains, expands access to finance, and creates opportunities for farmers, entrepreneurs, women-owned businesses, and other underserved groups. Recent highlights include financing to expand credit across the cocoa value chain and support food security; investments in manufacturing, recycling, renewable energy, and industrial infrastructure to strengthen domestic value chains and create jobs; and investment and advisory support to increase access to finance for SMEs. In FY26, IFC committed US$670 million through its own account and mobilization, compared with US$61 million in FY21.
