NPP Primaries: Police Probe After 942 Ballot Papers Found Hidden in Kumasi

A report reaching us stated that, The Ashanti Regional Police Command has launched an investigation following the recovery of a quantity of ballot papers believed to be linked to the New Patriotic Party’s ongoing internal primaries.

At approximately 8:30 a.m. on 30 January 2026, the police received intelligence regarding the presence of suspected ballot materials concealed within an uncompleted structure at Aburaso, a community within the Kumasi enclave. Acting promptly, the Regional Crime Scene Management Team visited the location to verify the report and secure the area.

Upon inspection of the four-bedroom unfinished building, officers discovered a box containing ballot papers hidden in one of the incomplete washrooms. A subsequent examination and count of the materials revealed a total of 942 ballot papers. Out of this number, 609 had already been thumb-printed in favour of one of the candidates, while 333 remained unused.

The recovered items have since been secured and transferred to the Regional Criminal Investigations Department for safekeeping and further forensic and investigative procedures.

Authorities have indicated that investigations are ongoing to determine the origin of the ballots and the circumstances under which they were found. The police have reiterated their commitment to maintaining law, order, and the integrity of all electoral and internal party processes within the region.

Residents and stakeholders have been encouraged to remain calm and to cooperate with security agencies as the matter is being addressed.
