Cyber Security Authority Warns Against Sharing Intimate Videos, Offenders Face Jail

By AfricanSpy  | February 14, 2026

The Cyber Security Authority (CSA) has issued a strong warning to the public against the circulation of intimate videos involving a Russian national and several Ghanaian women, cautioning that offenders risk imprisonment under Ghana’s cybercrime laws.

According to the Authority, any person found sharing, publishing, forwarding, or storing the explicit content could face between one and three years in prison under the Cybersecurity Act, 2020 (Act 1038).

Sharing Explicit Content is a Criminal Offence

In a statement, the CSA stressed that the distribution of intimate images or videos without consent constitutes a criminal offence, regardless of whether the person sharing the content was directly involved in its creation.

The Authority warned that individuals who circulate such materials on social media platforms, messaging apps, blogs, or websites will be tracked and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

Public Urged to Exercise Responsibility

The CSA urged the public to refrain from sharing or engaging with explicit content, reminding citizens that such acts violate privacy, dignity, and Ghana’s cybercrime regulations.

Authorities have also encouraged victims of non-consensual intimate content sharing to report incidents for investigation and legal action.

Legal Consequences

Under Act 1038, offenders can face:

Imprisonment of up to three years,

Fines, or

Both imprisonment and fines, depending on the severity of the offence.
