ResettingGhana agenda gains momentum with groundbreaking of glass factory at Shama

Ghana’s industrial transformation drive under the #ResettingGhana agenda continues to gather pace, as a groundbreaking ceremony was held on Tuesday at Shama in the Western Region for the construction of a new glass manufacturing factory.

The project marks another significant milestone in the country’s quest to strengthen local manufacturing, reduce dependence on imports, and position Ghana as a competitive industrial hub in West Africa.

KEDA (Ghana) Ceramics Company Limited, which has been operating in Ghana for several years, is expanding its operations with the addition of the glass factory. The development is expected to further reinforce Ghana’s attractiveness as a preferred destination for foreign direct investment, particularly in the manufacturing and industrial sectors.

As part of the event, the fifth phase of the company’s tile production line was also inaugurated, alongside the commissioning of a modern sanitary wares factory. These investments underscore KEDA’s long-term commitment to Ghana’s industrial growth and job creation agenda.

When completed, the glass factory is projected to produce 1,400 tonnes of glass per day. The facility is expected to significantly reduce Ghana’s reliance on imported glass products, generate an estimated US$100 million in annual exports, strengthen local supply chains, and create sustainable employment opportunities for Ghanaians.

The project is expected to contribute to the government’s broader vision of transforming Ghana into a manufacturing and export-led economy, while promoting value addition and industrial self-sufficiency.
