In a major boost to international educational cooperation, the Russian Federation has announced a 100% increase in its annual tertiary scholarship allotment to Ghana, doubling the quota from 120 to 240 fully funded slots for the upcoming academic year.
The expansion, confirmed by the Russian Embassy in Accra, allows qualified Ghanaian students to pursue undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral degrees across leading Russian universities in critical fields including nuclear engineering, medicine, information technology, and agriculture.

Key Highlights of the Expanded Scholarship Scheme

  • 100% Quota Increase: Total annual slots awarded to Ghanaian applicants expanded from 120 to 240.
  • Priority Study Fields: Heavy focus on STEM subjects, medicine, nuclear technology, cybersecurity, and agronomy.
  • Full Financial Coverage: Includes tuition waivers, monthly stipends, and subsidized university accommodation.
  • Preparatory Language Year: Includes a full year of intensive Russian language instruction before degree coursework begins.

Strengthening Bilateral Relations

The Russian Ambassador to Ghana highlighted that the quota expansion reflects deepening diplomatic and socio-economic partnerships between Moscow and Accra. The initiative aims to support Ghana’s national human capital development goals by training technical experts who can return to drive local industrial growth.
“Education remains one of the strongest pillars of our historic bilateral friendship. By doubling these opportunities, we are opening doors for talented young Ghanaians to gain world-class expertise in strategic sectors,” official diplomatic representatives noted.

Application Process & Deadline Information

The selection process is conducted through a transparent, merit-based application portal managed jointly by the Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education and the Ghana Scholarships Secretariat.
  1. Online Registration: Applicants must register and upload credentials via the official Russian government study portal (education-in-russia.com).
  2. Document Verification: Verification of academic transcripts, birth certificates, and medical fitness certificates by local educational authorities.
  3. Selection & Placement: Shortlisted candidates will undergo interviews before placement across specialized state institutions in Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Kazan, and Tomsk.
