MTN Ghana Foundation Receives 5,282 Applications for 2026 Bright Scholarship Programme, Reinforcing Youth Confidence in MTN’s Commitment to Education
The trust Ghanaian youth continue to place in MTN Ghana’s commitment to education has once again been affirmed, as the MTN Ghana Foundation received 5,282 applications for the 2026 edition of its flagship Bright Scholarship Programme.
The strong response follows the application period, which ran from 1 March to 31 May 2026, and highlights the growing demand for educational support among brilliant but financially challenged students across the country.
The Bright Scholarship Programme is one of the MTN Ghana Foundation’s flagship initiatives, designed to expand access to tertiary education by removing financial barriers for deserving students. The scholarship covers tuition, accommodation, learning materials stipend, and other academic expenses throughout the beneficiaries’ course of study.
Commenting on the response received for the scholarship applications, MTN Ghana’s Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer, Adwoa Wiafe, said the number of applications reflects the continued trust young Ghanaians have in the MTN Ghana Foundation.
“The 5,282 applications received this year are a strong testament to the confidence Ghanaian youth have in MTN Ghana and the MTN Ghana Foundation. We are encouraged that the Bright Scholarship Programme continues to serve as a beacon of hope for many talented young people seeking to pursue higher education despite financial challenges.”
She added: “Although we are unable to support every applicant, we remain committed to a transparent, fair, and credible selection process that identifies students with outstanding academic potential and genuine financial need. Education remains one of the most sustainable investments we can make in the future of our country.”
Adwoa announced that the interview and assessment process will begin in August 2026 across the country, after which successful applicants will be selected. She disclosed that 500 scholarships will be awarded in October 2026 for the 2026/2027 academic year.
Through the Bright Scholarship Programme, the MTN Ghana Foundation continues to invest in Ghana’s future by empowering brilliant young people to achieve their academic aspirations and contribute meaningfully to national development.
The MTN Bright Scholarship was launched in 2018 in fulfilment of a commitment MTN made to Ghanaians during the commemoration of its 20th anniversary in 2016. As part of that commitment, MTN, through the MTN Ghana Foundation, pledged to award 300 scholarships over three years. Following the impact of the programme’s first phase, the Foundation approved its renewal in 2021 as part of MTN’s 25th anniversary celebrations.
