Government to establish ‘Auditors’ Court’ to tackle audit infractions – Finance Minister

The government has announced plans to establish a specialized Auditors’ Court aimed at dealing exclusively with audit-related offenses and breaches of public financial management regulations. The announcement was made by the Finance Minister during discussions on measures to strengthen accountability and improve the management of public resources.
According to the Minister, the proposed court will focus on cases arising from findings contained in reports issued by the Auditor-General. These reports often highlight instances of financial irregularities, procurement breaches, unauthorized expenditures, and other infractions involving public officials and institutions.
The government believes that the creation of a dedicated court will help speed up the prosecution of offenders and eliminate delays that often characterize the handling of financial crime cases through the traditional judicial system. Authorities argue that a specialized court will develop expertise in dealing with complex financial and audit matters.
The move comes amid growing public demand for stricter enforcement of accountability measures in the management of state resources. Civil society groups and anti-corruption advocates have consistently called for stronger sanctions against individuals responsible for causing financial loss to the state.
The Finance Minister stressed that the initiative forms part of a broader public financial management reform agenda designed to promote transparency, improve fiscal discipline, and restore public confidence in state institutions. He noted that the government remains committed to ensuring that public officials are held accountable for their stewardship of public funds.
If approved and implemented, the Auditors’ Court is expected to serve as a major institutional mechanism in Ghana’s fight against corruption and financial mismanagement. Stakeholders are hopeful that the initiative will strengthen the country’s governance framework and enhance the effectiveness of audit recommendations.
