Senegal's newly elected President, Diomaye Faye
Senegal’s newly elected President, Diomaye Faye, has taken a firm stand against political idolatry and corruption, urging public officials to replace his photographs in their offices with pictures of their children as a constant reminder of their duty to the nation.
"I don’t really want my photographs in your offices because I am not a god or an icon, but a servant of the nation," President Faye declared.
Emphasizing integrity in governance, he added, “Whenever the spirit of theft visits you, take a good look at your family's picture and ask yourself if they deserve to be the family of a thief who has destroyed the nation.”
His remarks reflect his administration’s commitment to fighting corruption and promoting accountability in public service. The directive has been widely praised, with many viewing it as a symbol of his dedication to ethical leadership.
Following his landslide victory, Faye has made it clear that his leadership will prioritize service over self-glorification. By discouraging the idolization of political figures, he is sending a strong message that under his administration, public service must be rooted in responsibility, not personal gain.
