Bouygues Batiment International expands in Ghana via the USA

After several months of negotiations with the banks involved, on 26 March Americaribe -Bouygues Batiment International American subsidiary- closed the financial arrangements for the Ridge Hospital in Accra, in Ghana. It is in this city, with a population of more than 7 million and situated on the Gulf of Guinea, that the company will build one of the largest hospitals in the capital. The contract, which is close to $220 mn (€160 mn), is financed by a loan of HSBC and by the US Ex-Im Bank, which will there finance its first hospital project in the world. Now the actual work can commence under the management of Benoît Longuet and Manuel Bazan, with a first construction phase expected to be spread over 36 months.
From 2017, the people of Ghana will thus be able to enjoy a brand new hospital. For several years now the Ridge Hospital’s capacity has been overstretched by the ever-increasing number of consultations, as a result of which it was no longer able to accommodate all the patients. The new, larger, more modern and more functional complex will have the potential to become one of the most advanced medical facilities in West Africa. This future regional healthcare hub of 5 levels will include, among other things, a new 420-bed building, many operating theatres and a maternity unit. The project also aims at being the first LEED Healthcare certified hospital in the region, thanks to the electricity supply provided by solar energy.
This is Bouygues Bâtiment International’s first contract in Ghana. After the Ivory Coast, Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea, the company is confirming its ambitions in the areas of sub Saharan Africa in which the economic prospects are particularly promising.
